Dawn Priore is known as a health care partner.. If you are working with other health care providers and grant her permission she will collaborate on care. Mental health treatment is not within a vacuum, you are a whole person.  Many patients find themselves grappling with mental health issues and often do not realize there are other factors which may be contributing to the symptoms. Unidentified physiological health issues can present as mental health disorders.

How does trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, loss, addiction impact the mind and body?

Living in what we term ‘trauma time’ prevents individuals from fully processing current life experiences, hindering their ability to feel, function, and manage your entire life. There is a body-mind connection..

The good news is that I can assist you. Throughout my career as a professional therapist, I’ve worked with thousands of people who have reported significant and lasting improvements in their ability to feel and function. Together, we can work towards positive change and a more fulfilling life.

Let’s work together to achieve the lasting results you’re seeking. Reach out to me for more details on what sets my practice apart.

What can you anticipate during our meeting?

Firstly, we'll conduct an initial evaluation. This involves scheduling a session to talk about your goals, where I gather information about your current symptoms and personal history. This comprehensive assessment, often referred to as a "biopsychosocial," allows us to gain a holistic understanding of your situation.

Following this, we collaborate on developing a personalized treatment plan designed to help you in reaching your goals.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

is a widely recognized and effective form of treatment that focuses on exploring a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

The therapist works with the patient to identify unhelpful thoughts to promote a neutral or positive perspective resulting in less disturbance.

CBT is research proven therapy that has widespread applications to address a variety of issues.

Depression + CBT

When dealing with depressive disorder, often just called depression, it's important to understand that this is more than a passing bout of sadness. If left unchecked, depression can interfere with everyday functioning and lead to grave consequences. In my practice, I utilize CBT therapy as a vital tool in combating depression, helping my patients learn to recognize and alter thought patterns leading to depressive symptoms. This approach promotes healthier behaviors and emotional responses and helps manage life crises, physical illnesses, and other triggers of depression.

Anxiety Disorders + CBT

Anxiety disorders, similar to depression, can significantly affect a person's quality of life. I've found CBT highly effective in treating anxiety disorders as it focuses on pinpointing the unhelpful thinking patterns contributing to anxiety.  I teach patients how to ‘step back’ to promote objectivity and coping skills are taught. My goal is to teach you long lasting skills to enable you to become ‘your own therapist’.

PTSD and CBT

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) frequently occurs after exposure to trauma. The powerful biological and psychological responses to trauma can be overwhelming, leading to debilitating symptoms if left untreated.  CBT has proven to be an effective versatile therapy for PTSD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sleep disorders, pain management, obsessive compulsive disorder, and more.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, designed to unleash the brain's natural healing process.   EMDR therapy is a powerful research-proven therapy which is gaining more recognition in the news, television shows, and celebrities report EMDR therapy has uncovered what years of traditional talk therapy did not.

The EMDR process stimulates the brain's innate adaptive information processing mechanisms, allowing individuals to reprocess traumatic memories in a more adaptive way. While the traumatic memory doesn't vanish, its storage transforms, resulting in reduced distress. Many clients express a sense of moving forward, feeling lighter, optimistic, and equipped with improved coping skills.

There's a prevalent misconception that EMDR can swiftly resolve issues such as PTSD, depression, grief, anxiety, and OCD within a few sessions. However, the reality is that we all process experiences at our own pace, and there's no predetermined number of sessions that guarantee specific results. Nevertheless, it's essential to highlight that many of Dawn's patients, transitioning from 'traditional talk therapy' to EMDR, often share positive outcomes. They describe gaining deeper insights, making quicker progress, developing enhanced coping skills, and experiencing lasting changes.

Depression, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, + EMDR

When treating PTSD, I use EMDR to help my patients reprocess traumatic experiences, minimizing or eliminating intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and flashbacks. For those with anxiety disorders, I've seen the significant impact of EMDR in identifying and reprocessing the experiences fueling their anxiety. For treating depression, EMDR can aid those whose depressive symptoms are deeply tied to past traumas.

Prolonged grief and self blame + EMDR

Grief and loss bring a unique kind of pain, and EMDR therapy can offer profound relief. Many patients develop unhealthy belief systems about themselves pertaining to the loss. EMDR breaks the irrational, unhelpful, distorted belief which has been maladaptively stored in the brain.  It is your time to move forward with your life.

Phobias, obsessive behaviors, and addiction + EMDR

EMDR helps patients get to the deeper root which has spurred unwanted symptoms and behaviors. The journey towards wellness outshines the darkness. “It’s time to get unstuck’.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that helps create an altered state of consciousness or a "trance" in patients. This process allows for increased openness and receptivity to therapeutic suggestions and facilitates access to deeper layers of the mind that may be difficult to reach in normal waking consciousness.

This form of therapy is not about controlling a person's mind, as some may fear, but rather it's about empowering individuals to take control and consider something ‘other than’.

Patients report they experience a heightened state of awareness and feel relaxed when they are engaging in this therapy.  Hypnotherapy is a resource to introduce possabilities, promote curiosity, and healing on a deeper level.

Stress, Anxiety, and Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for managing stress and anxiety. By teaching the mind to relax and quiet the incessant worry or stress thoughts, I help my patients establish healthier coping mechanisms and a calmer state of mind.

Chronic Pain and Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be an effective tool for managing chronic pain, as it can help patients learn to alter their perception of pain and even reduce its intensity.

Weight Management and Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be a valuable tool in the management of weight and eating behaviors. Through the power of suggestion, patients develop healthier attitudes towards food and exercise and foster positive self-image and self-esteem.

Promoting better sleep + Hypnotherapy

Patients are taught how to quiet stress, anxiety, and rumination, to establish healthy sleep patterns.

Strength-Based Therapy

Strength-Based Therapy is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes individuals' intrinsic strengths and resources as the primary tools for personal growth and problem-solving. Instead of focusing solely on problems or symptoms, Strength-Based Therapy concentrates on individuals' competencies, promoting resilience and building on positives.

Strength-Based Therapy is non-pathologizing. The key is to motivate, explore,  reinforcing, and continue to build upon an individual's strength to overcome challenges. This approach instills hope, increases self-esteem, and encourages a more optimistic view of the future.

Depression, Anxiety, and Strength-Based Therapy

Strength-Based Therapy can be highly effective to reinforce resilience, establish healthier coping mechanisms, promote a more positive mindset and a greater sense of self-worth.

Relationship Issues and Strength-Based Therapy

Strength-Based Therapy can be beneficial in addressing relationship issues, helping individuals and couples recognize and utilize their strengths to improve communication, solve problems, and nurture healthier relationships.

Trauma, Stress-Related Disorders, and Strength-Based Therapy

Strength-Based Therapy can also be highly effective in managing trauma and stress-related disorders. By focusing on an individual's strengths rather than their trauma, this therapy promotes resilience and recovery, helping patients reclaim their lives and look forward to a brighter future.
